It seems that days in Kenya fly by. Perhaps it is summer months everywhere, but I am exceptionally aware of it here.
A day trip to Kisumu. Visited the museum. Saw a snake pit. Petted an 80 year old Giant Tortoise. Toured the Impala Sanctuary. Saw leopard, monkeys, water buffalo, baboons, got lunged at by a lion, petted a cheetah, stalked zebras, and yes... crossed paths with a herd of impalas. Drank some Tuskers. Home again. Met up with other wazungus. Slept with a cockroach. Peed with a black widow. Caught a Kenyan Kold (aka Erin bronchitis sick). Visited dispensary. Prescribed sketchy medicine in folded pieces of paper. Whatever it was cured the ‘D’. Discovered a neighbour who fries French Fries with tomatoes and onions. Now a regular customer. Multiple sightings of mouse running around while we finish up dinner. Gave a piggyback to a 3 year old who had soiled her pants. Scrubbed. And scrubbed. Cold subsiding. Rains created a lake out of the muddy road. New member of household – 6 year old Dickens. New desks made for Fairview. Teachers striking. Two days of negotiations and conflict resolution. Will know verdict on Monday. On many occasions have found self splurging on 25 cent mangoes. Trip to Mbale. Avadaco juice = let down. Got braids. My hair hurts. Don’t think they will be with me long. Big budget meeting tomorrow. Need sleep. Tomorrow is another day.
